Motivos, Práctica y Percepción Social del Boleo de la Hoja de Coca en Universitarios de Santa Cruz, Bolivia

Abstract

La costumbre andina de bolear es un fenómeno nuevo entre los jóvenes de la ciudad de Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. En la presente investigación se describen los motivos por los cuales los jóvenes universitarios bolean, dónde y cuándo suelen hacerlo y qué efectos perciben al bolear. Se obtuvo información de 256 participantes (Medad = 22.56, DE= 3.59). Los resultados muestran que los jóvenes bolean principalmente para quitarse el sueño o cansancio y así poder seguir estudiando o bebiendo alcohol, de fiesta, con sus amigos. Los jóvenes no reconocen el origen cultural de la práctica y, nuevos usos y lenguaje surgieron entorno al boleo. Asimismo, se encuentra que hay cierto rechazo social hacia el boleo como práctica ajena a la cultura local.

The Andean custom of coca leaf balling (boleo) is a new phenomenon among the youth of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. This study describes the reasons why young university students use coca leaves, where and when they usually do it, and the effects they perceive. Information was obtained from 256 participants (Mag e = 22.56, SD = 3.59). The results show that young people use coca leaves to get rid of sleep or fatigue, and thus, continue studying or partying with their friends. The cultural origin of the practice is not recognized, new uses and language have evolved around this practice, and there is social rejection towards this type of coca leave use, because it isn't part of local culture
