Introduction: In restoring, the humidity is kept by the organic component of dentin, making adhesion difficult. Currently, studies that confirm the effectiveness of adhesives on dentin have not been found, therefore the objective was to determine the effectiveness of dentin adhesives systems based on literature. Methodology: The results were obtained from the following sources of information: SciELO, MEDLINE, Springer, Virtual Health Library, Redalyc, Medegraphic, Acta Odontologica Venezolana, Revista Odontologica de los Andes, Revista Venezolana de Investigacion Odontologica de la IADR, Google Schoolar, Scientific Research and Hindawi. A search was made for clinical trials In Vitro (60); articles published between 2010 and 2015 were selected taking into account human and cattle specimens. Results: The studies confirmed the strength of binding in the presence of various components used in dentine, self-etch adhesives showed more effectiveness than total-etch adhesives and universal adhesives. Conclusions: The use of etching adhesives in dental practice is suggested, others studies demonstrating the effectiveness of universal dentin adhesives are also recommended.
