Análisis de la comercialización de pesticidas: un estudio transversal en Sucre, Bolivia

Abstract

La producción global de pesticidas se incrementa constantemente durante los últimos años, generando preocupación por los efectos adversos para la salud existentes, cuando no se emplean medidas de seguridad en su aplicación sobre campos agrícolas. Por lo cual, el objetivo del presente estudio es analizar el cumplimiento de la normativa boliviana, condiciones de infraestructura y el proceso de comercialización de pesticidas en Sucre ciudad capital de Bolivia, mediante un estudio transversal realizado entre noviembre y diciembre de 2023 en tiendas minoristas, tanto registradas como no registradas de esta ciudad. Se empleó la metodología de observación llamada "Cliente Misterioso" y así mismo, se realizaron entrevistas a vendedores. En total se visitaron a 18 tiendas, realizando al menos 3 observaciones por cada una de ellas y lográndose entrevistar a 16 vendedores. Se encontró una infraestructura y condiciones de venta deficientes, aunque muchos ofrecían asesoramiento, era evidente un bajo cumplimiento de medidas de seguridad y salud, así como algunas creencias erróneas sobre la efectividad de los pesticidas. Además, se encontró un coeficiente de correlación positivo y significativo entre las observaciones y encuestas realizadas. El estudio identificó algunas áreas a fortalecer en el proceso de comercialización y que deben ser supervisadas y vigiladas para el correcto funcionamiento de los puntos de venta de pesticidas y así proteger la salud humana y el medio ambiente.

Global pesticide production has steadily increased in recent years, raising concerns about adverse health effects when safety measures are not applied during their application in agricultural fields. Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyze compliance of Bolivian regulations, infrastructure conditions, and the pesticide marketing process in Sucre, capital of Bolivia. A cross-sectional study was conducted between November and December 2023 in both, registered and unregistered retail stores in the city. The "Mystery Shopper" observation methodology was employed, supplemented by interviews with salespersons. A total of 18 stores were visited, with at least 3 observations made per store, and interviews were conducted with 16 salespersons. The study found deficient infrastructure and sales conditions; although many stores provided advice, there was a noticeable lack of adherence to safety and health measures, alongside some misconceptions regarding pesticide efficacy. Furthermore, a positive and significant correlation was found between observations and survey results. The study identifies areas for improvement in the marketing process that require supervision and oversight to ensure the proper functioning of pesticide sales points, thereby safeguarding human and the environmental health.
