Abstract
The article presents an overview of the historiographical advances on the Ecuadorian electoral processes in the nineteenth century, which have shaped the author’s understanding and the research challenges projected in this field. The works' theoretical-methodological coordinates that emerged along three contexts of production are analyzed: the study that emerged within the framework of the institutionalization of history under the conservative rule; the contributions produced during the rise of the new Ecuadorian history linked to the scientific paradigms of the post-war period; and the studies aimed at the new political history.
