Surfactants, i. e., surface active substances, are largely used in the oil industry from explotation-production to refining. Numerous research project have been carried out on these topics by the FIRP Lab. group in the past 8 years. The phenomena related to the different petroleum industry applications are briefly discussed, together with the main role of the surfactant, such as tension reducer, (d)emulsifier, (anti)foaming agent, corrosion inhibitor, dispersant, wetting agent, etc.
