Abstract

The aim of this study was to know the conditions of protesic functionalism factors, the condition of total dentures and support soft tissues in patients carrying these dental prosthesis. A research was performed to evaluate 33 patients between the ages of 40 and 80 who went to the community ambulatory in March 2006. Previously evaluated examiners performed the intraoral clinical test. The validity of the data collection instrument was obtained by experts judgment, the obtained data through a multiple answer questionnaire was put to the reliability test through the Kurder Richardson method with a result of 0.80. 94% showed injuries on the support soft tissues, 48.48% showed papillomatosis, 33.33% showed clinical signs of epulis, 70% showed candidiasis and in 6% showed, angular cheilitis, hyperplasia, and leucoplasia were observed. Almost all evaluated prosthesis had a lack of irregular borders, fractures, missing teeth, stains and pigmentations. All subjects had had upper dentures for over 5 years and most of them were done by empirical.
