Abstract
A comparative study of morphometric and meat yields two freshwater fish, cachama (Colossoma macropomum) and Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus, Chitralada strain), farmed under intensive conditions in Trujillo state, Venezuela; using a completely randomized design was conducted. The morphometric variables related to total length (LT), standard length (LS), head length (LC), head height (AC), body longitude (LTr), body thickness (ET) were determined. Morphometric relations measured were: head length/head height (LC/AC), head length/standard length (LC/LS), head length/total length (LC/LT), body longitude/body thickness (LTR/ET), body longitude/standard length (LTr/LS), standard length/total length (LS/LT). The carcass yield (%RC), fillet yield (%RFi) and waste (%R) was determined as beefing variables. The morphometric parameters and weight variables showed significant differences in favor of C. macropomum (P 0,05) for fish species.
