Aging, scars and a number of defects that appear on the face can affect the patient physically and psychologically. Currently, the use of orofacial filling biomaterials has become common. The pharmaceutical industry proposes new products every year, however, the search for the ideal biomaterial still continues. Chitosan is a natural biocompatible and biodegradable biopolymer that exhibits regenerative properties. It can be considered a therapeutic alternative for aging and tissue loss. It was proposed to analyze the injectable chitosan gel as a cutaneous biostimulator in Sprague dawley rats. An experimental study was carried out in 43 adult male rats divided into: experimental group A (n = 20 animals), control group B (n = 20 animals) and control / control group C (n = 3 animals). The material was infiltrated into the back of each animal via the intradermal route. Group A was infiltrated with 0.05 ml of chitosan gel, group B with 0.05 ml of hyaluronic acid and group C did not receive any material. Follow-up was done, at the fourth and eighth week, 10 animals from groups A and B and 1 from group C were sacrificed for taking histopathological samples. It was concluded that the injectable chitosan gel does not generate alterations in the behavior of the animals and produces the formation of a nodule in the infiltrated area. On microscopic examination, it behaves as a damaging agent that produces a chronic exacerbated inflammatory response and a foreign body granuloma-like reaction.
