Item type: Item , Granuloma piogénico gravídico(2007) Nelly Velazco; Erica Holguín González; J M Belkis QuiñonezThe pyogenic Granuloma is a focal reactive injury, not neoplasic, of fibrobascular tissue or granulation. Feminine sexual hormones influence its ethiopatogeny and when it occurs during pregnancy it is called gravidic pyogenic granuloma or pregnancy tumor. During gestation, this injury can present a rapid and accelerated growth, acquiring dimensions that interfere with chewing, affecting nutrition and consequently fetus development. Gravidic pyogenic granuloma is located more frequently in the front vestibular gum in the upper maxillary. However, its presence has also been reported at an extra gingival level. This case report describes the clinical, radiographic, histopathologic characteristics and the treatment of an unusual extra gingival located gravidic pyogenic granuloma, in the edentate alveolar locking lip of a 22 year-old patient in post pregnancy period. The objective of this study was to compare nutritional habits, dental habits and presence of dental caries in students of the schools of Architecture and Dentistry of the Universidad de Los Andes. For this matter, a transectional study was designed, a multiple choice questions survey about nutritional and dental habits was applied as well as a clinical examination to determine the index of dental caries (CPOD) on 57 students of Architecture and 56 students of Dentistry, chosen at random. The results were analyzed by comparison of averages and chi-squares, obtaining CPOD indexes of 4,43±3,44 in Architecture and 4,80±4,05 in Dentistry. The most consumed carbohydrates were pasta, bread and candies; related to CPOD indexes in Architecture, not finding any relation between the consumption of pasta and CPOD in Dentistry. No significant differences were found when comparing the indexes of caries and dental habits of the groups involved. Despite the groups were uniform, the presence of better dental habits in Dentistry students could be attached to the knowledge and motivation acquired on their careers. A Susana Arteaga; Nelly Velazco; Sair GonzálezEach one of the members of the dental health professionals group, as well as the patient who goes to an appointment, are exposed to the risks of getting highly infectious diseases; in the last two decades, society has been more aware about the rising and transmission of infectious-contagious diseases. Patients and health workers have shown interest and concern about diseases transmitted by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and by hepatitis B and C virus (HBV and HCV), which has led the dental health team (dentists, dental hygienists) to star putting into practice biosecurity and infection control in the dentist office. Hence the importance of reviewing the latest concepts known to protect ourselves and the patient in dental practice following infection control regulations destined to diminish risk of infectious microorganisms from identified and unidentified sources in the dentist office linked to accidents by exposure to blood and bodily fluids.Item type: Item , Uso de elementos de protección para prevenir enfermedades infectocontagiosas en los estudiantes del tercer año de odontología de la universidad de los andes, Mérida – Venezuela(2014) Lilibeth Rojas Mercado; Andreína Marquina Alarcón; Nelly Velazco; S Pino PascucciIosafety standards emerged with the purpose of controlling and preventing transmission of infectious diseases, hence they must be applied by the professional in the general daily practice.
