Abstract

The pyogenic Granuloma is a focal reactive injury, not neoplasic, of fibrobascular tissue or granulation. Feminine sexual hormones influence its ethiopatogeny and when it occurs during pregnancy it is called gravidic pyogenic granuloma or pregnancy tumor. During gestation, this injury can present a rapid and accelerated growth, acquiring dimensions that interfere with chewing, affecting nutrition and consequently fetus development. Gravidic pyogenic granuloma is located more frequently in the front vestibular gum in the upper maxillary. However, its presence has also been reported at an extra gingival level. This case report describes the clinical, radiographic, histopathologic characteristics and the treatment of an unusual extra gingival located gravidic pyogenic granuloma, in the edentate alveolar locking lip of a 22 year-old patient in post pregnancy period.
