Moustic Réunion: An illustrated interactive dichotomous identification key for mosquito species of La Réunion Island, implemented as an Android application
    (2026) Frédéric Lardeux; Philippe Boussès
README.pdf Moustic Réunion: An illustrated interactive dichotomous identification key for mosquito species of La Réunion Island, implemented as an Android application Frédéric Lardeux and Philippe Boussès 1. Abstract Moustic Réunion is an Android application designed to assist in the identification of mosquito species based on morphological traits. The application combines interactive keys, annotated images, and offline functionality to support research, surveillance, and educational purposes in medical entomology. 2. Introduction Accurate mosquito identification is critical for entomological surveillance and vector-borne disease control. Moustic Réunion is a digital dichotomous identification key of the mosquitoes of La Reunion Island, for both adult females and larvae, and was developed using Flipabit (Flipabit LLC, 2025)and based on the identification keys of Boussès, Dehecq, and Fontenille (2021) which provides the foundational morphological data and images for species identification. Moustic Réunion provides a digital solution, integrating curated identification resources in a user-friendly mobile format. 3. Application Features Interactive morphological identification key Visual support with annotated images of mosquito traits Offline use compatible with Android devices Lightweight and easy-to-install APK 4. Installation and Usage 1. Download the APK file: Moustic_Reunion.apk, from Zenodo repository or from Github (https://fredlardeux.github.io/entomo_tools/) 2. Transfer to an Android device, 3. Enable installation from unknown sources, 4. Launch the application and follow identification steps. 5. Scientific Content The application incorporates validated entomological data: Identification keys, Annotated images, Taxonomic descriptions. All scientific content is curated by P. Boussès. Accuracy depends on the quality of specimens and correct user input. 6. Limitations Identification is based solely on morphology, Results should be validated by expert entomologists when used in research or operational contexts, Accuracy may vary with specimen preservation and lighting conditions. 7. Forest Fires in Santa Cruz, Bolivia
(European Organization for Nuclear Research, 2025) Cespedes Roca, Yonavelin
Forest fires in the department of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, have become a chronic and recurring socio-environmental crisis, consuming millions of hectares of tree cover annually and threatening the integrity of ecosystems, the livelihoods of Indigenous and rural communities, and regional economic stability. This research is a meta-synthesis of 25 academic, institutional, and journalistic sources (2020–2025) that examines the etiology and multidimensional effects of this problem. The results demonstrate a direct correlation between the expansion of agribusiness and the incidence of fires, with 70% associated with the practice of slash-and-burn agriculture, exacerbated by a permissive regulatory framework, such as the "fire laws" (Law No. 741/2015 and Law No. 1171/2019). Among the most significant impacts are economic losses in the millions of dollars, an 8% increase in rural poverty rates, and violations of the human rights of Indigenous peoples. The applied socio-legal analysis reveals the structural deficiencies of Environmental Law No. 1333/1992, whose sanctions regime is insufficient and lacks effective integration of Indigenous knowledge. It concludes that the unregulated expansion of agribusiness is the underlying factor of the problem, and therefore proposes specific legislative reforms, including the prohibition of burning in vulnerable ecosystems, the strengthening of penalties, and the creation of binding mechanisms for community participation. This study contributes to the U.A.G.R.M. Science Expo. 2025 provides a basis for the development of viable and sustainable public policies, in line with SDGs 13 (Climate Action), 15 (Life on Land), and 10 (Reduced Inequalities) of the 2030 Agenda (United Nations, 2015). Keywords: Forest fires, Santa Cruz, Bolivia, meta-synthesis, environmental law, climate change..

Indigenous Technologies, Archaeology, and Rural Development in the Andes
    (2015) Alexander Herrera
This chapter addresses the deployment of selected material elements of indigenous technology in rural development projects inspired by archaeological understandings of raised fields, terraces, and reservoirs in Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru during the 1980s and 1990s, and asks if and how applied archaeology may help mitigate the negative effects of capitalist expansion. By distinguishing intentions, practices, and consequences of development it identifies applied archaeology as immersed in development policies. Through interviews with agronomists, archaeologists, and campesino farmers, technical errors in past rehabilitation projects are identified and socio-theoretical weaknesses discussed. As a second wave of indigenous technology-inspired projects aims to bolster adaptations to climate change, the chapter highlights the significance and broader importance of the traditions that uphold communal organization, water management, and territorial aspirations, as well as agrobiodiversity.

    Gossip and Reputation in Childhood
    (2019) Gordon Ingram
Analysis of the development of gossip and reputation during childhood can help with understanding these processes in adulthood, as well as with understanding children’s own social worlds. Five stages of gossip-related behavior and reputation-related cognition are considered. Infants seem to be prepared for a reputational world in that they are sensitive to social stimuli; approach or avoid social agents who act positively or negatively to others, respectively; and point interaction partners toward relevant information. Young children engage in verbal signaling (normative protests and tattling) about individuals who violate social norms. In middle childhood, the development of higher-order theory of mind leads to a fully explicit awareness of reputation as something that can be linguistically transmitted. Because of this, preadolescents start to engage in increased conflict regarding others’ verbal evaluations. Finally, during adolescence and adulthood, gossip becomes more covert, more ambiguous, and less openly negative. The driving force behind all these changes is seen as children’s progressive independence from adults and dependence on peer relationships.

Human recombinant activated factor VII for upper gastrointestinal bleeding in patients with liver diseases
    (Elsevier BV, 2007) Arturo J Martí-Carvajal; Georgia Salanti; Pedro I. Marti-Carvajal
We found no evidence that human recombinant activated factor VII reduces the risk of death in patients with liver disease and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. However, we made our conclusion on a single randomised clinical trial. More randomised clinical trials having low risk of bias are necessary in order to determine the role of human recombinant factor VIIa in clinical practice.

    Privacy
    (2012) Manuel José Cepeda Espinosa
Privacy in comparative constitutional law is associated in some countries with specific legal ideas, such as inviolability of domicile and the secrecy of correspondence, whereas in others it is related to broad concepts such as freedom, dignity, and autonomy. Some jurisdictions provide an all-encompassing idea of ‘privacy’, whereas others provide different sets of compartmentalized rights. However, most jurisdictions share several key trends. The basic one is accelerated expansion, not only in terms of protected interests but most significantly in terms of the transformation of the very core of the right, which goes beyond the idea of privacy as seclusion and as a shield from intrusion and unwanted gaze. It protects a decisional aspect of the individual, seeking to safeguard a realm of autonomous development of the person situated in social life and in relation to others. Thus, privacy is rarely defined in fixed terms; rather, it is seen as a fluid concept constantly extending its frontiers to face new demands and the challenges of changing contexts. his article addresses key issues concerning the basic elements of privacy, its protection, and its limits.
