Comparación de datos morfométricos y gravimétricos entre ejemplares de Odocoileus virginianus de las localidades: El Tibisí, en Minas de Matahambre y Península de Guanahacabibes, en Sandino, Pinar del Río, Cuba

Abstract

The present morphometric and gravimetric study was carried out on 6 adult specimens of Odocoileus virginianus (white-tailed deer), three females and three males at the locality of El Tibisi, which is administrated by the Integral Forest Company of Minas Municipality. The parameters (length of the ears, length of the body, thoracic perimeter and body height) in each specimen were measured with a 1.5-meter-long measuring tape. The body mass (net weight) was registered with a 100 |kg| scale. The age of each specimen was determined by measuring the wear away of the teeth. The morphometric and gravimetric data of the males and females from the locality were compared with those described by different authors for this species at their places of origin. Moreover, males and females from the locality were compared among themselves, these, in turn, were compared to an equal number of males and females of similar ages from Guanahacabibes peninsula. It was verified that the morphometric and gravimetric data of the white-tailed deer from the locality match the range proposed for the species in Cuba and in their places of origin. There are significant differences: in the thoracic perimeter and the weight of the males and females from the locality of Tibisi; and in the length of the body and height of the body of the males and females from the localities of Guanahacabibes and Tibisi.
