Abstract

Results: fourteen newborns were studied, children of hyperthyroid mothers. The diagnosed cause of the maternal hyperthyroidism in the 14 pregnant women was the Graves disease. In 13 newborns, seric hormonal levels of T4 and TSH at the 2-4 days of life, the 7-14 days and 4-6 weeks of life were normal, diagnosing in only one newborn, transitory primary hypothyroidism. Conclusion: in the present work, most of newborn children of hyperthyroid mothers did not present thyroidal dysfunction; only in one of them transitory primary hypothyroidism was diagnosed.
