RESISTIENDO LA EXCLUSIÓN: EL SIGNIFICADO DEL USO DE INHALANTES EN DIFERENTES CONTEXTOS EN JÓVENES EN SITUACIÓN DE CALLE DE LA CIUDAD DE LA PAZ

Abstract
El objetivo de esta investigación es informar acerca de los significados que los jóvenes en situación de calle asignan al uso de inhalantes en la ciudad de La Paz - Bolivia. El estudio se basa en dos fuentes: material visual y escrito producido en talleres creativos y los diálogos subsecuentes con los participantes. A través de una metodología narrativa con enfoque socio-construccionista, los resultados preliminares fueron presentados y discutidos con los participantes para profundizar en la construcción del significado del uso de inhalantes. Encontramos que estos significados no son estáticos ni generalizables, sino dinámicos y particulares, respondiendo a la experiencia de cada participante. Más aún, los significados son construidos en relación a los diferentes espacios físicos y sociales con los cuales interactúan -como ser instituciones de ayuda, grupos de calle y sociedad en general- para resistir la exclusión social. Proponemos que una interacción mayor con otros contextos diferentes de la calle puede disminuir la frecuencia de consumo de este tipo de drogas. Es necesaria mayor investigación para confirmar este último punto, para que pueda ser implementado en un futuro en el diseño de intervenciones.
The aim of this research is to inform about the different meanings street youth give to the use of inhalants, in the city of La Paz -Bolivia. The study draws on two sources: visual and written material produced by them in creative workshops and subsequent dialogues with participants. Through a collaborative data collection methodology, preliminary findings were presented and discussed with participants to deepen in the meaning construction of inhalant use. We found meanings are neither static nor generalizable, but dynamic and particular to each participant´s experience. Moreover, meanings are constructed in relation to different physical and social spaces with which they interact -such as welfare institutions, street groups and society in general- to resist social exclusion. We argue that greater interaction with social contexts different from the street can affect the frequency of consumption, decreasing the use of this kind of drugs. Further research is needed to confirm this latter point, in order to be implemented in intervention designs.
