Abstract
Uno de los grandes problemas de la sociedad tanto a nivel regional como nacional y local está vinculado al incremento de la violencia delictiva y la inseguridad ciudadana. En este contexto, bastante violento e inseguro, la ciudad de El Alto es considerada como la urbe más peligrosa, violenta e insegura del país, situación que ha conducido al Estado y la sociedad civil a desarrollar una serie de mecanismos formales e informales para prevenir y enfrentar esta dramática realidad. Vinculado a este último punto, el presente artículo describe algunos mecanismos de autoprotección que han desarrollan los vecinos de la ciudad de El Alto, en particular los pobladores de algunas zonas del Distrito Municipal I.

Linked to this last point, this article describes some self-protection mechanisms that have developed the neighboring city of El Alto, in particular the residents of some areas of the Municipal District I.
