Abstract
A veces los acontecimientos nos suceden como golpes en la cara. Precisamente eso es lo que ocurre cuando una lee Memorias del subsuelo, de Fiódor Dostoievski (1864/2010). Es inevitable ver(se) en ella cualidades humanas que fácilmente nos ubicarían como una especie terrible. En Memorias, la presencia del mal -en el personaje principal- está acompañada por la presencia del dolor, como si uno fuera condición inevitable para el otro. Precisamente de eso trato en este ensayo, de la maldad y el dolor en el sujeto moderno. Para ello, tomo como pretexto el libro de Dostoievski.
Sometimes events occur to us like blows to the face. Precisely that is what happens when one reads Memories of the subsoil, of Fyodor Dostoievski (1864/2010). It is inevitable to see (in) human qualities that would easily locate us as a terrible species. In Memoirs, the presence of evil - in the main character - is accompanied by the presence of pain, as if one were an unavoidable condition for the other. That is precisely what I write about in this essay, of evil and pain in the modern subject. To do this, I take as a pretext the book of Dostoevsky.
