Palmeras de Bolivia: Distribución y taxonomía
Abstract
Data referred to distribution and taxonomy of native Bolivian palms is presented. These information has been gathered through bibliographical search and intensive fieldwork under the project Palmeras de Bolivia of the Herbario Nacional de Bolivia. The chapter related to distribution is organized in themes of geographical range, ecology and biogeography. The taxonomic frame - based in taxonomic problems found during the last 10 years - was foccused on variability of taxa, validity of binomials, weak knowledge on distribution, and poor botanical collections. Finally, the diversity chapter of Bolivian palms includes a referencia of the genera, based in their systematics, number of species represented in Bolivia, and diagnostic characters to differentiate among native species. To present, the Bolivian Palm Flora which is still being defined, has a total of 27 genera and 84 species. These taxa are distributed between 140 to 3.400 m elevation in a wide range of ecosystems and habitats, from the lowlands to subandean formations and interandean valleys. Bolivia itself shows a mixed influence of different biogeographic domains as follows: Amazonian (55%), Andean (29%), Cerrado (7%), Gran Chaco (2%), and mixed origins (8%).
