Necropsy findings in an Amazon River Dolphin (Inia geoffrensis) calf exposed to extreme drought in the Colombian Orinoquia region

Abstract

The Orinoquia region of Colombia is facing events of drastic and rapid fluctuations in river flow, driven by both natural variability andanthropogenic pressures, including land-use change and inadequate water management practices. These river flow depletions increase the possibility of dolphin strandings. We present the first histopathological description of a stranded Amazon river dolphin (Inia geoffrensis) calf captured during a rescue attempt in an anthropic river system.
