Abstract
The new law on coca (2017) brings into conflict two models of interpretation of the legitimacy of its production: an economic-political model, impelled by the government and producers of the Chapare, versus that of the original ancestral producers ofthe Yungas (La Paz, Bolivia). Its sociopolitical effects are evidenced in: a) weakening of mutual support between Yungas producers and the government; b) crisis due to polarization within and between organizations and institutions; c) a crisis in the sociopolitical order of producers.
