Abstract
Introduction: The playroom is an educational space that uses tools to facilitate the acceptance of the child and their parents before the dental chair. It is part of the work to promote the oral health of children and adolescents. Objective: To describe the use of the play room as a complement to pediatric dentistry care in patients with disabilities. Method: 9 patients were treated in the program of Attention to patients with of Andes University on 2019 between the ages of 3 to 9 years. The patients were included in strategies to motivate, relax and adapt them, performing clinical examination and conventional care in the dental chair. Transitional elements, toy dental instruments, different textures and an anticipatory panel were used to demonstrate the stages of dental care. Results: Clinical examination was carried out. The use of transitional element modeling turned out to be entertaining, and effective in showing the use of materials that would be used in the patient's mouth on the dental chair. Discussion: Patients with disabilities present multiple characteristics, therefore the therapeutic approach must be individualized. The use of the play room facilitates the processes of integration and transfer of the pediatric patient to a new environment, through communication and affective teaching based on educational games. Conclusion: We must plan care according to the individual requirements of each patient to achieve a pleasant conventional dental care. The use of the playroom complements the traditional management techniques.
