Abstract

Abstract: Two new species of frogs (Amphibia: Leptodactylidae) from paramo in Sierra Nevada National Park, Venezuela Two new species of frogs of the genus Eleutherodactylus (Amphibia: Leptodactylidae) are described from Sierra Nevada National Park, in the Cordillera de Merida, Venezuelan Andes. Both are species inhabiting paramo environments. One of them comes from the Mucubaji region and can be easily distinguished from its congeners in the area by possessing a skin with a wet look, blackish coloration, as well as by its small size and absence of expanded disks on digits. The other species comes from the area of the Merida cable car and only could be confused with Eleutherodactylus colostichos from which it could be distinguished by its large size, unconspicuous dorsolateral bands, first finger shorter. In both cases it is presented a description of the than second and large shanks. In both cases a description of the holotype of the species is presented, accompanied by a definition and diagnosis, data on natural history, distribution and ethymology. Key words: Amphibia, Leptodactylidae, Eleutherodactylus, taxonomy, Cordillera de Merida, Andes, Venezuela.
