Abstract
Based on the theoretical assumption which culture matters, the article explores the behavior of some cultural hypothesis, at the supply and demand level, as explanations of women sub representation in public office in Uruguay, attempting to point out the methodological precautions which have to be taken into consideration when gender analysis is performed. The article lies on the theoretical approach according to which the main causes of the low feminine presence in politics answers to factors of structural nature for which, however, there would be –in the short term- political `solutions´.
