Abstract

Anatomical leaf features of five species of the genus Cestrum: C. bigibbosum, C. microcalyx, C. potaliifolium, C. racemosum y C. salicifolium, members of the tribe Cestreae of the family Solanaceae are described. This work is a part of the series titled “Anatomical leaf studies on Venezuelan Solanaceae”. The fresh material used to examine the species under study, proceeded from the cloud forest of the National Park Henri Pittier, which were hydrated and processed according the clasical technique in anatomical leaf studies. The five studied species to exhibit similar anatomical features, related with uniestratified adaxial and abaxial epidermis, with rectangular and quadrangular cells, hypostomatic, with anomocytic stomata, presence of glandular trichomes, so as similarity in the histological arrangement of the middle nerve and the peciole. In relation with differences are due to the thick, sinuous of the epidermical cells walls, number of cells layer of the palisade and spongy parenchyma.
