Abstract
The consumption of chimo in recent years has increased considerably, causing health problems such as ulcers and gastritis, including also the risk of stomach and esophageal cancer that are conditions that cause dysphagia, abdominal pain, and weight loss and are only treated by methods surgical procedures provided they are diagnosed on time. The objective of this investigation is to determine the levels of uric acid and urea in the urine of 24 hours of chimo consuming individuals using visible molecular absorption spectrophotometry. The sample consisted of 136 individuals between men and women, 69 consumers of chimo (50.7%) and 67 non-consumers (49.3%), between 18 and 65 years of age, belonging to a population of students and workers of the Municipality Libertador of state Merida-Venezuela randomly selected. The results obtained showed uric acid levels above the normal values and urea levels below the normal values, in the individuals consuming chimo in 84.5% and 75.4% respectively, in relation to the non-consuming individuals of chimo, whose levels of both analytes remained within normal values.
