Abstract

Summary is only given; Modern Wind Turbines are exposed to structural loads due to its large size, flexibility and uncertain environments in which they operate. This creates fatigue and damages the components of the structure, including the transmission. Load reduction might prolong lifetime of the structure and the components furthermore reducing the costs of maintenance. In this paper, a Type-1 Servo System with optimal feedback and disturbances reduction is applied to a 1.5 MW simulated wind turbine, in order to dampen aerodynamic loads on the transmission while the generator speed is regulated in the wind speed region above its rated speed. The performance of the control system is presented and evaluated through a set of simulations in MATLAB / Simulink environments with FAST interface.
