Abstract
In a joint effort between Conservation International (CI) and Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) within the project "Biodiversity and Regional Development (BIRD)", a preliminary evaluation of the herpetofauna was carried out during the period 2000-2001, in localities in the Serranía (mountain ridge) of Tequeje, Candelaria and Alto Madidi, to the north of the National Park and Natural Area for Integrated Management Madidi (PNANMI-Madidi). Ninety species was found (47 amphibians and 43 reptiles), two of them are new to Bolivia, 14 are new records for La Paz, and 40 are new records to the PNANMI-Madidi. The species accumulation curves in each locality show that it has not been reached the peak maximum richness. The richness and composition of species found in each locality is similar among the habitats and between seasons, with some species reported only once.
