Abstract

Vector transmitted diseases are common in tropical areas where usually there are water and sanitation shortages, enabling the presence of blood-sucking insects which by biting a sick person or animal and then a healthy person allow the spread of the disease. The objective of this research was to determine the prevalence of vector transmitted diseases occurred in Trujillo State – Venezuela during the period 2008-2013. A descriptive, documentary retrospective field study was conducted in order to know which were the diseases transmitted by vectors that occurred in Trujillo State during last five years; finding that Dengue in its different classifications with 10.410 reported cases, followed by 160 Leishmaniasis, Chagas and Malaria with 12 cases for each of them; from this knowledge can be established both preventive and educational strategies with active participation of communities in order to achieve reduction in these diseases, and make a difference in the quality of life.
