The objective of the research was to compare the hemostasis phases in laboratory rats of the BIOU lines: \nWistar and BIOU: Sprague-Dawley. Methodology: 10 rats from each of the lines were used, produced by the \nBioterio of the University of Los Andes, with body weight between 370 and 400 g, it was determined: bleeding \ntime, platelet count, prothrombin time (PT), partial time of activated thromboplastin (aPTT), clotting time and \nfibrinogen. Results: bleeding time and PT were significantly lower in BIOU: Sprague-Dawley rats (p = 0.002 \nand p = 0.011 respectively). There was no significant difference in platelet count, aPTT, clotting time and \nfibrinogen between both lines of rats (p> 0.05). Conclusion: differences were observed between the BIOU: \nSprague-Dawley and BIOU: Wistar laboratory rats, both in the primary hemostasis as in secondary hemostasis; \nspecifically, bleeding time and PT were significantly lower in BIOU: Sprague-Dawley rats. The differences \nfound could be explained by variations in the genetic bases of each line of rats, which influence platelet \nfunction or the expression and / or activity of coagulation factors, anticoagulant proteins and components of \nthe fibrinolytic system.
