Índice simplificado de la sostenibilidad del recurso hídrico (ISRH) en cuencas de montaña. Caso de estudio: sub cuenca hidrográfica de la quebrada La Fría, Municipio Libertador, Estado Mérida, Venezuela

Abstract

Throughout the history of humanity, water is the vital natural resource for the existence and development of life on our planet. However, every day the problems and challenges for their sustainability and sustainability tend to increase, due to the eminent variability of global environmental aspects, especially climate change. In this context, The aim of this this research was to determine the level of sustainability of the hydric resource for the purpose of supplying drinking water in mountain river basins, through a set of hydric indicators and anthropic intervention, which were integrated into the Simplified Index of Sustainability of Hydric Resource in Mountain Hydrographic Basins (ISRH-CHM). This resulted in a moderate level of sustainability, with a high risk of unsustainable water security for the population those benefits from the water supply system. In response to this result, four (04) programs and nineteen (19) strategies related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are proposed to all institutional actors and users of the supply source; all this, in order to carry out appropriate management of drinking water that strengthens resilience to natural threats and achieves better adaptation to climate change.
