Abstract
Este artículo explica el papel de las mujeres comercializadoras de coca, comúnmente llamadas chhakas, en la construcción del territorio en el Trópico de Cochabamba, entre 1985 y 2005. Las chhakas fueron un actor relevante debido al control que tenían sobre la comercialización de la coca y su influencia sobre el espacio sindical. Entre los resultados se describe el rol de estas mujeres en el manejo del mercado primario, la relación con la central cocalera y la contienda con el Estado.
This paper explains the role of women coca traders, commonly called chhakas, in the construction of territory in the tropical region of Cochabamba from 1985 to 2005. The chhakas were relevant actors due to their control of the commercialization of coca leaves and their influence in the peasant unions. The results describe the role of the chhakas in managing the primary market, their relationship with the coca growers' central union, and the conflict with the State.
