Abstract
Resumen: Las mujeres conducidas por redes de tráfico sexual a lo largo de la región de América del Norte, desde Centroamérica y México hasta Estados Unidos, transitan generalmente por tres casas de seguridad antes de llegar al lugar de destino. El objetivo de este artículo, fundamentado en una metodología cualitativa que incluye la realización de entrevistas en profundidad a 65 mujeres centroamericanas transportadas por redes de tráfico sexual, es describir la situación de las mujeres en las casas de seguridad por donde transitan hasta llegar al punto de destino en Estados Unidos. Los resultados de esta investigación contradicen el discurso oficial, al concluir que la violencia, el secuestro y el abuso sexual constituían situaciones producidas de modo excepcional.
Abstract: Women transported by sex smuggling networks throughout the North American region, from Central America and Mexico to the United States, generally travel through three safe houses before arriving at the destination. The objective of this article, based on a qualitative methodology that includes carrying out in-depth interviews with 65 Central American women transported by sex smuggling networks, is to describe the situation of women in the safe houses where they stay until they reach the point of destination in the United States. The results of this investigation contradict the official discourse, concluding that violence, kidnappings and sexual abuse were exceptional situations.
