Abstract

In the rural areas of Colombia, peasants have been producing organic coffee for the international markets since the early 1990s. The adoption of this type of culture is not only the search for better revenue due to higher prices in these markets. To understand it well, it must be taken into account the historical and social constitution of local communities and the ways in which this productive activity is represented and developed. This text explains this through a case of production and exportation of organic coffee in the region of Valle del Cauca in the 1990s.
