Putting the Co-Dependent in Charge: A Compression Approach to an Alcoholic System

Abstract

Sometimes all direct efforts to encourage detachment in the co-dependent of an alcoholic system are unsuccessful, generating frustration in the therapist and hopelessness in the couple. This paper explores an alternative method of unhooking the co-dependent from the drinking behavior of the spouse.
