Factores asociados a la estancia hospitalaria prolongada

Abstract
Introduction: hospital stay is an important factor in health management. Its analysis and control is necessary in order to guarantee the quality of care for users who require hospitalization services. Objective: to analyze the associated factors with prolonged hospital stay in the Urology, Gynecology and Internal Medicine services of the Autonomous Institute University Hospital of Los Andes from Mérida, Venezuela during the period 2012-2016. Methodology: the research was carried out under a quantitative approach; explanatory type, documentary design and transversal, retrospective temporality. The sample consisted of 362 medical records of hospital discharges. The technique used was the documentary review and the instrument a registration matrix. For the hypothesis test were used the following statistics: ANOVA analysis of variance, test of homogeneity of the Chi-square statistic and likelihood ratio. Results: among the most outstanding it was obtained that, the three specialties reflected an average stay of 33.38 days in Internal Medicine, 33.50 in Urology and 28.22 in Gynecology; too high compared to the norm. Of the factors of the service provider that presented the most statistical differences, it was the delay in conducting interconsultations with p (0.004) for Internal Medicine, Urology (p 0.027) and Gynecology (p 0.048). Of those inherent to the patient, Internal Medicine showed significant differences in the average of preoperative days with p (0.008). Conclusion: the factors related to the service provider and those inherent to the patient, influence the prolonged hospital stay of the Urology, Gynecology and Internal Medicine services.
