Abstract
Currently in studies on rural development there is a rethinking of the traditional approach used to approach it. The concepts of “the local” and “the territorial” have been incorporated as key aspects to promote the process from the perspective of the actors. This study intends to analyze the postulates of the Experientialist epistemological approach, highlighting its contributions to the understanding of the rural from a perspective based on the territory as a development factor. Methodologically, a review of specialized literature on territorial development (DTR) was carried out, as well as on epistemological approaches, with special emphasis on the postulates of Experientialism and qualitative research, which have been adopted in recent research to understand rural from a position based on the territory, which emphasizes the social action of the producers themselves as participating agents in the process. The results of the research reveal the need to continue incorporating the Experiential approach and the qualitative methods in research on DTR, since both allow understanding the dynamics of rural territories from the social interaction and daily life of the own actors familiar with rural reality.
