Abstract
This article analyses the circumstances which led to the setting up of the "Aymaras without Borders" Strategic Alliance -an organization that brings together 57 border municipalities in Bolivia, Chile and Peru- and its main objectives, achievements and prospects. Based on theoretical approaches and the changes that are taking place as a result of globalization, the author shows that this strategic alliance is an interesting, grassroots-driven experience which can help to reverse the negative dynamics that have led to the high Andean Aymara region becoming one of the poorest and most deprived areas of South America
