Abstract
The study delves into the relationship between personality traits and behaviour in the prison environment. Using a mixed methodological approach, the analysis includes quantitative and qualitative aspects. Thus, we pose the research question: ¿What are the main findings of the open scientific literature on personality? Objective. To analyse the research available in open access about the influence of personality on the behaviour of inmates in prison environments. Methodology. A systematic review was carried out in scientific databases such as: Dialnet, DOAJ, ScienceDirect, SSOAR, JSTOR, during the period 2019-2024, including information in Spanish and English, focusing on the relevance, methodological quality, and timeliness of the studies. Results. The search for articles for the study was a total of 200, but through the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 31 articles were selected for analysis. The importance of adapting individualized therapeutic programs to address the specific psychological needs of inmates is highlighted, which could significantly contribute to their rehabilitation and social reintegration. Conclusion. Behavioral analysis-based programs, such as phase systems that reinforce positive behaviors, have been shown to be effective in reducing recidivism. These systems allow inmates to improve their conditions through active participation in organized activities and pro-social behaviors
