Abstract
Objective. To design a protocol egress for the care of patients with neurological conditions in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Instituto Autonomo Hospital Universitario de Los Andes (IAHULA) of Merida. Methods. It was a documentary study design feasible project. It was based on care activities of daily living (ADLs) in patients with neurological conditions. The project met the stages of diagnosis, theoretical foundation (document review and self-care theory of Dorothea Orem), feasibility of the proposal, validation and implementation. Results. The protocol was made up of introduction, justification, mission, vision, objectives, scope, target population, scope and content. It was characterized by the description of procedures regarding hand washing, nursing care or family in food, mobilization-ambulation, hygiene and disposal staff- dress, depending on the level of patient dependency. In each procedure was broken equipment, steps and foundation of each activity, coded with numbers and letters for ease in handling. He joined the family protocol and this who receive guidance from the nurse, making him share in patient care once he graduates from the unit. Conclusion. The protocol was an innovative instrument that met the stages of a feasible project. Important and consultation for both nurses working in the ICU and students of undergraduate, graduate and those who perform the role of family caregiver.
