Abstract
El artículo reflexiona sobre la compleja relación entre la construcción moderna de las identidades nacionales y el desarrollo de los medios de comunicación masiva. En este sentido, se revisa tanto la forma en que los media permiten la construcción de lo que Anderson ha llamado "comunidades imaginadas", como el modo en el que la extensión global de la comunicación ayuda, junto a factores políticos y subjetivos, a la permanencia de la referencia nacional como dato fundamental de la experiencia social contemporánea.
The article reflects on the complex relationship between the modern construction of national identities and the development of mass media. In this sense, it is reviewed the way in which the media allow the construction of what Anderson has called "imagined communities", as the way in which the global extent of communication helps, along with political and subjective factors, to the permanence of the national reference as fundamental evidence of the contemporary social experience.
