POBLACIÓN NINI EN CHILE: MOTIVOS PARA LA EXCLUSIÓN LABORAL Y EDUCATIVA

Abstract
La significativa proporción de jóvenes que no estudia ni trabaja (NINI) es un fenómeno de envergadura y preocupación para la política pública. Utilizando bases de datos oficiales de representación nacional, y mediante un análisis descriptivo y de tendencia, este artículo caracteriza a los y las NINI en Chile en términos demográficos y socioculturales y perfila los motivos que conllevan a la decisión de marginarse del espacio educativo y laboral. Junto a una clara huella de género, la baja escolaridad, pertenencia a grupos vulnerables y condiciones de paternidad/maternidad constituyen atributos distintivos. Los motivos para ser NINI presentan marcadas diferencias de género, predominando entre mujeres el cuidado de otros y labores domésticas. Esto conlleva la necesidad de mejorar las métricas de estimación para visibilizar la contribución económica de la mujer joven al hogar.
The significant proportion of young people who are not in employment, education or training (NEET) is an important phenomenon and concern for public policy. Using official databases of national representation, and through a descriptive and trend analysis, this article characterizes the NEETs in Chile in demographic and sociocultural terms, and outlines the reasons that lead to the decision to marginalize themselves of the educational and work space. Together with a clear gender footprint, low schooling, belonging to vulnerable groups and paternity / maternity conditions are distinctive attributes. The reasons for being a NEET present marked gender differences, with the care of others and domestic work prevailing among women. This means to improve estimation metrics to make visible the economic contribution of young women to the home.
