Abstract

Child malnutrition affects the development of children under the age of five and limits their progress. This study aims to characterize child malnutrition in the province of Santa Elena, its changes over time and the role of public policies. The study's methodology is mixed, based on the UNICEF 1990 child malnutrition framework, and uses quantitative methods, based on a probabilistic pooling data model, and qualitative methods, supported by a documentary review. Among the main results of this research is that child malnutrition in Santa Elena has different prevalence in population groups, with limited public policy towards improving the nutritional situation of the population.
