Abstract
This paper presents the systematization and analysis of an exploratory activity developed within the framework of the application of two didactic units for elementary basic education, focused on the complex problem of microplastics and their impact on human health. In order to organize and represent the students' ideas, a didactic device called a rationality island was used, through which the students established associations between diverse knowledge around a hypothetical situation. The results show the appearance of nine codes or groupings of ideas with which the students explain the presence of small plastic fragments in the blood.
